Analyze your environmental impact by calculating the carbon footrpint of every commute

Would you like to calculate the carbon footprint of your travel and commutes, in order to analyze environmental impact? With GreeMko, you can do just this, while generating consciousness in an interactive and personalized way, offering step-by-step advice and information to achieve a more sustainable future.

The first step towards improving is to measure. As a startup participating in the Clean Cities Accelerator, GreeMko is able to do this and more thanks to innovative technology.

As such, they have demoed their mobility solution in two summits pertaining to the accelerator program: Impact Days Viena and South Summit Madrid.

In the first summit, Impact Days Viena, the majority of the total distance traveled occurred via airplane (86%), given that most participants arrived from other countries. In total, the 24 participants generated 7.9 tons of CO2, which would require an offset of 40 trees in order to compensate these emissions. The distance traveled by all participants adds up to a total of 57,877 kilometers, where the distance traveled by airplane makes up 96% of the total emissions. The second most popular mode of transport being train, making up 13% of distance but only 3% of total emissions.

In the second event, South Summit Madrid, there were 3 less participants, a total of 21, generating 4.4 tons of CO2, which would require an offset of 22 trees in order to compensate these emissions. One of the reasons for the relative reduction of emissions in the second event can be attributed to commutes shorter in distance, totaling 35,048 kilometers. Similar to Impact Days Viena, we once again that 86% of distance was traveled by airplane, again making up 96% of total emissions. The train still being the second most popular form of travel, making up 4,925 kilometers, 14% of total distance, and <2% of total emissions.

Thanks to these tools, we can visually analyze the distinct impact of each event. In these two cases, high levels of carbon dioxide are related to airplane travel, which in many cases can seem inevitable.

However, through the collection and analysis of this data, we are able to form more focused conclusions to modify our modes of transport, intending to replace high emission transport with lower-emission options.
