Clean Cities ClimAccelerator Stage 2 (ENG)

The 5 European start-ups that bring cities closer to meeting the sustainable development goals

The 2nd edition of Clean Cities ClimAccelerator kicked off with more than 30 selected start-ups. After nine months of training, mentoring, networking and international fairs, there are only 5 start-ups that reached the final stage of the European accelerator, chosen for the growth potential of their solutions to other European ecosystems, as well as for their degree of investment maturity, in addition to its high social and environmental impact.

The jury, composed of business angels and international impact venture capital, highlighted these 5 start-ups to access stage 3, which will last until February 2023. After this period, the start-ups will be ready to present their commercial cases before investors and/or clients. In addition, they will have access to the EIT Climate-KIC investment program and investors specialized in sustainability and climate change.

Validation, collaboration and impact

During these months, the start-ups have participated in different phases focused on validating their business model, estimating their potential for avoided emissions, starting relationships with public and private institutions, and currently, analyzing investment opportunities.

The structure of the accelerator is developed with an evolutionary basis so that the participants may gradually adapt and provide solutions to the market needs and/or the problems faced by public institutions and corporates in the city areas.

This is confirmed by Waisense, one of the start-ups that reaches stage 3. “The technology and the business model has notably grown. We have been able to develop and test a new digital functionality for our patented water-saving tech, able to save up to 25 liters in every shower or hot water usage. We tested it in a real environment thanks to one of the partners of the program, who are now customers and potential investors of the startup”, confirmed Eduardo Dueñas, founder of the start-up.

Joining strengths to build healthy cities

The goals of Clean Cities ClimAccelerator are clearly aligned with the local, regional, national and international policy measures and strategies on climate change that were discussed at the recent COP27 in Egypt, where entrepreneurship played a prominent role as a key element in achieving climate neutrality.

In this sense, creating ties between all the start-ups and the agents involved to build joint solutions is the challenge that every society faces to combat climate change. This acceleration program has been working to make these agreements a reality through the collaboration of the different stakeholders involved in the ecosystems. This is highlighted by the participants themselves, who value the connections that this initiative provides them.

We believe that the most important value provided by the accelerator is the connection level, contact to similar partners working in the European context, the mentoring and support provided during the workshops and the vision toward a New European approach in doing business with a sustainable approach (…) There is a window that is still open and we can make a change if we unite”, says Alex D'Elia, co-founder and CEO of Prosume, one of the selected start-ups.

Franz Haller, co-founder and CEO of MIXTERESTING, which is part of the startup cohort of this stage 3, also insists on these connections. "During the Clean Cities ClimAccelerator, we made a huge development of our software to facilitate the calculation of the CO2 savings in the optimized mixtures. We also gained traction with 2 new projects from the accelerator"

Meet the 5 selected startups!

MIXTERESTING: digital simulation software of the mixing process, which is able to independently suggest optimized concrete mixes. Its tool allows innovation cycles to be ten times faster, developing CO2 neutral concrete in just three months.

Volvero: this application connects owners and drivers effectively bringing to use underutilized vehicles and providing an extensive range of efficient mobility possibilities to the drivers. Having this access to transportation enhances people.

Latitudo 40: All-in-one Urban Data Analytics Platform for climate action planning based on satellite imagery, artificial intelligence and geospatial analysis, to make simple and effective climate action plans and deliver better quality of life.

Waisense: a cyber-physical solution (IoT device +platform/app) that improves the efficiency of installations while increasing knowledge and awareness through the data stored and shared with users and administrators.

Prosume: Energy platform data management blockchain-based. This platform can be customized depending on the users’ needs. Their applications are provided on a B2B model to all the companies that are willing to offer innovative and digitized services to their customers or to the managers of local distribution and/or generation infrastructure.

Next edition

After the success of this second edition of Clean Cities ClimAccelerator, a new call for this accelerator will soon be launched, related to the European needs in order to join efforts among all member countries and fight together for climate neutrality in our cities.
